Test your website against PHP 7.0 for Windows users

This is a guide that shows how you can test your website to the new version PHP 7 which was installed 2017-04-12


Here is a guide to so that you can test if test your webpage so it works on a Linux server in our enivronment with PHP version 7.0. This guide is for you who is running Windows locally on the computer that you're testing from.


To test your website without redirecting your homepage you can update your local host file so your local computer will go to a specific server which runs on the new version of PHP.


First, open Notepad as an administrator, right-click the Notepad icon and select "Run as Administrator". If you can´t find Notepad, click on the Start menu and type Notepad in the search field.


Then click on "File" and "Open." Go to the "c: \ windows \ system32 \ drivers \ etc \".  Select "All Files" and open the file "hosts".


In the "hosts" file, add a row at the bottom and enter the address you want to point to and the domain name that should be pointed there as well, be sure to also add the domain name with the www if used.
It should look like below:

Once you've tested and confirmed that it works against the new PHP version, delete the row you added in the file "hosts".
